“In garden design, it is essential to have a strong, evocative concept that will create a coherent whole. My own garden in Scotland, called the Time Garden, is designed using ideas of time. The form of it is an arrow representing the arrow of time—the shaft is the straight path you walk up. The cycles of time, seasons and light are present in the forms of mounds, steps and ropes that wrap the trees.”
“At my house in London, I used different ferns, yucca and bamboo on my roof terrace. They are low-maintenance and have a tropical Jurassic feel.”
